Contrary to popular belief, I am not a natural photographer and in fact, I actually like sports much more than taking photos. But for my first blog post, I want to tell you how I found photography and how it has changed my life in many ways as well as why you should take up photography as a hobby or even a part-time business.
For me, my interest for photography sparked when I heard we were going as a family to Israel in March, 2018. Knowing the beautiful scenery and historical areas in the country, I found my parents' camera and decided to start taking pictures around my hometown to get used to it. But to start as a photographer you don't need a camera especially because the high-end ones can cost thousands of dollars. Instead, most phone cameras are so advanced that they can even take better pictures than some cameras. I wouldn't recommend starting a photography business with a phone camera but to understand the hobby more, it's a great starting point.
Arriving in Israel and going to the first sight I realized how beautiful God's creation is. The picture "Tree of Life" was taken on our first sight. From there on, I kept taking as many pictures as I could and deciding to edit them later. This process was so much fun, especially as we were travelling throughout the country.
After getting back home, I decided to start going through the pictures I took. This was a long and strenuous process and to be honest, drew me away from photography. But once I finally decided on the pictures I wanted, I started my website, otphoto.ca, and started to upload my pictures into portfolios. From there I was addicted to taking pictures and everywhere I went, my camera went to.
In the past couple months I have been drawn away from photography mainly because of the increasing amount of schoolwork I have to do and volunteer opportunities that I have taken. But in the time of the Covid-19 pandemic, with Christmas only a month away, photography can even be a gift to family and friends.
Although photography may not be your first hobby choice or even one you would consider normally, try to take a couple minutes out of your day to at least try to spend time with nature and the landscape around you. It can calm, fulfill, and leave you refreshed.
Thanks for reading my first blog post and let me know if you want to read more!
